WHAT STEPS DOES CRISTINA FERNANDEZ DE KIRCHNER OR HER ADVISERS/HANDLERS, TAKE IN HELPING HER DEAL WITH STRESS? IS SHE TAKING ANY MEDICATIONS? UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES IS SHE BEST ABLE TO HANDLE STRESSES? HOW DO CRISTINA FERNANDEZ DE KIRCHNER,S EMOTIONS AFFECT HER DECISIONMAKING AND HOW DOES SHE CALM DOWN WHEN DISTRESSED?

Wait, wait, this brings something to mind. Scratching…oh yeah! Truly more amusing than the political scoopy scoop.

Never, never underestimate the limitations of “intelligence”.
Yes, they can finish off this or that person. Yes, they can use electronic devices to track you down or read my e-mail. Yes, they have some people who are good in maths and can crack down codes.

And yet: they are thin on understanding foreign cultures, other languages, motives, goals and all the rest.
    That is dangerous.
If you spend some time in Argentina you would know Argentina has the highest proportion of psychiatrists on Earth. If you are Middle class (not upper middle class) and you haven’t visited a shrink, you must be crazy. They do that and they do that a lot. In Venezuela, but also in many other countries in South America, you will hear jokes galore about Argentines, almost all about their ego.
Now here comes a couple of Peronista politicians…and the one leading is that woman and she is indeed a bit more psycho, as is any other leader trying to clinch to power and money and people have rumours and gringos listen…
“es veRdad esou? Ella estaaa louca?”
“sí, che gringo, vos tenés que entender que la tipa está loca de remate”.
    “Muchou muchou louca?”
    “Que te digo que sí”.

“SBISTTTTTT22 to USFOREAS: we believe the president of Argentina is under heavy stress, she suffers under a severe form of psychosis, specially after her husband’s death and she is about to have a total breakdown if”

Not so different from their focus on the Three-Land Corner as a Hub of Fundamentalism (which doesn’t mean one should not pay attention to it).
You feed them this tiny bit and they do all the rest.
These are the same blokes whose main history source for the Middle East are the Books of Genesis to the Book of Joshua, with a couple of tids and bits from Chronicles and Judges, the same who swallow the story of “yes, we are the true and purest descendants of the original inhabitants of Haaretz Israel and they all came with the Islam invasion”

      Kepler with all due respect,

when people disagree with you do not assume without knowing them that they do not know enough ,or imply that you know more, because it just isn’t convincing.Instead you can say why you disagree and leave it at that.

Criticizing people’s references or edudcation instead of explaining your personal ideas, just detracts from on ongoing discussion and adds nothing to the general understanding.

Delicious as this gossip is, I wonder if it amounts to anything more than that, gossip.

But seriously … what is she on? What is Chavez on, for that matter? Maybe Hillary just wanted some pharmacological advice.

It was a good kaption kompetition that one, wasn’t it? I had a redux chuckle at Tweetie’s winnah last night thanks to you, Setty.

OK, OK, I know I’m always the one without the sense of humor…

But this whole “A1…A1!” thing irks me. As if there has been no previous reporting — as if somehow this one particular cable should be held to represent the totality of US thinking on Argentina, rather than as part of something more comprehensive.

I am glad that the US is interested in a foreign leaders personality and ways of dealing with stress. Stress does effect behavior and it should be helpful to determine signs that a foreign leader is under more or less stress. I hope that this sort of information is gathered on other foreign leaders as well.

Lucia – you win. I am being unfair. It’s exactly the sort of silly gotcha stuff that this sort of leak engenders, and it’s a cheap shot. It’s also pretty amusing — I mean, I will bet you a small unit of any currency that no similar cable turns up asking about the nerves of any other head of state.

Nathaniel – Sure, it’s fine. But it’s only the key question if you already think the lady is some sort of stress case. It’s pretty funny to think that Hillary wrote all this and then two months later met with Fernandez face to face.

Well Setty, Have you now read ANYTHING scandalous about U.S. foreign policy in the leaked cables? Any nefarious plots? Or have you just learned the the U.S. considers itself surrounded by a bunch of confusing, duplicitous foreigners? Should the U.S. just close all its embassies and just save money by getting a Bloomberg terminal to report on the world?

  7. Nathaniel

My presumption would be that any leader of a country is likely to be under significant stress. This cable was sent during the middle of the spat between Argentina and the UK for drilling in the Falklands. A couple of days before this cable was sent there was a war exercise in the Falklands. So yes she was likely to be under stress and knowing how it was effecting her would be important if the US was to get involved in the dispute.

      1. Nathaniel

No idea if one will turn up in what wikileaks has, and I don’t have the time to go looking. But I will take your bet without the money attached.

    Setty,

When you write: “Hillary wrote all this and then two months later met with Fernandez face to face.” you are misinformed. Hillary did not write it and probably never saw it. The cable is formally goes out in the name of the ranking official present. So when Hillary is in country, it goes out in her name. Similarly, all embassy cables go out in the name of the Ambassador or Chargé d’Affairs. Somebody else wrote it. Hill writes very little.
